Weapons
John Carpenters Magnolia. Barbarian heads we are eating, this rips so hard.
Where Barbarian flutters for me, Weapons turns you inside out, karate kicks your head and throws you to the moon. Easily the funniest movie I’ve seen recently and the most entertaining and visually interesting. There are some bits in here that still have me laughing to myself an hour after seeing.
Cregger’s eye for visuals and composition is on par with anyone making anything right now. His sense of pacing and hilarious character moments is bar none. For my money Cregger is the most exciting voice in horror right now. His voice comes through distinctly during the film. Give this premise to anyone else and it’s a very different experience. Him and I seem to have very similar senses of humor, so take that as you will. Not to mention I was creeped tf out constantly. The use of multiple perspectives and the way Cregger chooses to reveal information is so clever and TERRIFYING.
It’s pissing me off already seeing people say this is a movie about nothing. Amidst the brain melting chaos, Weapons explores very specific themes.
I’m gonna go see this again soon and I’ll do a spoiler filled review but for now just please go see this ASAP.
