Midnight Mass

That second to last episode was amazing.
It’s interesting because this movie treats Christianity/Catholicism with some respect while able to critique it solidly. I appreciate that because many people can only find the critiques for the religion when truly there are admirable aspects. But then the Bevs and Father Pauls and Sturges and Wades of the world come in and twist it into something horrid. It also makes a point that it’s also the Annies and the Eds of the world that can make it bad...
It all tied up a bit too nicely and the first 4 episodes take time to ramp up, which isn’t bad, but it just felt like it very very quickly ramped up in the last two episodes. Either needed one less episode at the beginning or one more at the end me thinks. And there’s a lot of times where I went “.... but why/how?” after a scene would end. Like why did the sheriff go off about being called a terrorist... that was not a good time, bro! Why did Riley have to kill himself...? Why did Sturge and the Mayor so suddenly follow Bev...? Why was the old age makeup so bad on Mildred? There’s some more, but it was just interesting how many moments there were haha
Also, I was reminded of Rogue One at the very end...?
I can’t commit to TV shows very often because I just want everything to get to the point within a two hour timespan like a movie, but I’ll always at least try the Mike Flanagan ones. He’s not the best director or writer, but he makes movies/tv shows that are memorable and you have a hard time forgetting which I think is difficult to do. I’ll never forget that moments like when Leeza is asked to walk to the front, when the angel attacks Riley, when Riley burns up, that scene at the church and everyone singing Nearer My God To Thee. They’ll stay with me.
