Faust
The Deal with the Devil
“I have now, alas! studied philosophy, law, and medicine… and see that we can know nothing!“
Murnau’s Faust (1926) is a haunting visual odyssey that turns the classic deal-with-the-devil tale into a dark, almost biblical nightmare. With stunning expressionist imagery and groundbreaking effects, it captures the battle between temptation and redemption in one of silent cinema’s most powerful portrayals of good and evil. The romance bits and the second act in general was definitely the weak point of the film, but is redeemed by the amazing adaptation and reimagining of Goethe’s Faust through German Expressionism. Another notable thing to mention is the first act and third act of the film, powerful and breathtaking beyond measure. Idk what they did, but the visuals are so captivating and the music also compliments the film so nicely. Amazing craft, story, execution, and js so good
