(44th Cambridge Film Festival) This is the perfect Yorgos Lanthimos film It is the perfect blend of his bleak realist and out of this world surrealist styles that have stayed separate entities for his entire career The comedy in this film is hilarious, the violence is brutal, the score is grand and startling His true visual style really shines through here, it’s not so out there that it feels self indulgent but it’s just uniquely stylistic enough to engross you in the world that he crafts There is never a dull moment, the fantastic screenplay makes sure of that and Lanthimos’s direction assures us that there would be no faltering in that claim Emma stone is great as always when she collaborates with Yorgos but JESSE FUCKING PLEMONS is the absolute standout of this film - give him more leading roles or we riot I urge everyone to go and see this - even Chappell Roan fans will get something out of it
