Poor Things
I was definitely wrong about a few aspects of this movie in hindsight, I love this movie - it’s undoubtedly my favourite Yorgos Lanthimos movie
For anyone who isn’t a fan of Killing of a Sacred Deer or Dogtooth this is the movie for you - it is absolutely expertly crafted and such a unique film
The score is fantastic and it’s like nothing I’ve ever heard before, it sounds drunk and discordant but somehow it’s still quite rhythmic
Emma stone is so great in this - I can see why Yorgos constantly casts her
The setting and world of this film is perhaps my favourite ever - it’s such an otherworldly version of the world, it’s like if a mad Victorian scientist were to predict technological advancement in the 20th Century
The Alice in wonderland and even more so the Frankenstein influences are incredibly evident here - Willem Dafoe playing a Frankenstein like figure feels like it should’ve happened sooner
