TÁR
An absolutely fascinating post Covid character study that was even more enthralling on a second watch
You’d expect a film like this to use score to the best of its ability but it’s used both so subtly and so boldly when it suits the character in a way that I haven’t seen before
Cate Blanchett gives a performance of the decade here - Lydia Tar is such a true to life depiction of a cold, overly logistical, self absorbed creative that you both are satisfied with her downfall though also harbour a significant level of pity towards her which is absolutely sold by Blanchett’s performance, so convincing is the performance that you second guess wether the story is actually a biopic
Todd Field’s directing is masterful as is the camerawork - the script is perfect and the production design in Lydia’s home and its use of colour and space so greatly compliment her own emotional distance and coldness
What a fantastic film
