The MenuLauren10.0· November 29, 2022FollowI have this thing about dark stories where I sometimes get so excited and enthralled by the villain and their evil plan that I’m genuinely disappointed when the hero saves the day. I first noticed it reading The Hunger Games: Catching Fire when our heroine and her friends revealed their plan to escape the arena and take down the Capitol. They’re just quitting? But who won the Quarter Quell?? Most recently I noticed it during Don’t Worry Darling when Alice started to fight back and run away. I simply wanted to see the world they built up play out. What’s the end goal? What is success here? Does it ever get old? It’s…a discomfiting feeling to recognize this tendency about myself. Like, why don’t I want good to win in the end? Is this darkness inside of me dangerous? But holy shit, when the insane premise is allowed to play out, the catharsis is incredible. The Menu is absolutely perfect.CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the appSee all Lauren's reviews for The Menu (2)First watch10.0November 29, 2022Rewatch 110.0September 24, 2023
