God what do I even say about this movie I haven’t said before. This movie upon this rewatch really does SUCH a fantastic job on setting up the two mermaid sisters in such a short amount of time. I think that both girls, silver and golden are shown to be two people who do want love and what makes them different is how they accept such on their own terms. The whole “this is like a darker version of the little mermaid” narrative I see this movie get , while humorous and understandably clickbaity, does bother me. as while yes, golden makes a huge sacrifice for love and ends up dying because of it, I think silvers choices and inclusion as a character acts not as a foil but sort of in tandem to that narrative. She takes risks that get her in trouble, but no matter what she stays true to what she needs to do as a mermaid. Silver tends to want to stay alongside other mermaids, eat people who cause her trouble. Where as Golden is willing to risk everything for a sense of normalcy and craves to belong amongst the humans. even at the wedding on the boat, she is emotional looking at not only the love she has lost BUT the life she could had lived, had things worked out. This movie deconstructs so much in its timeframe. And while the plot is always shakey and confusing at times I will always sing its praises because when people complain about “elevated horror slop” movies like this exist, to prove that the movies we wished existed can exist. This movie having no fan community to stand on BOTHERS ME so much for that reason but whatever. Always a 10/10 movie no notes.

VERY long time coming movie. I definitely could have been a better watcher of this movie, I was drawing durring I think some of the really important middle section and although I take pride in my ability to multi task, I did indeed, flop. Outside of that, I really appreciate both the choices to be very historically accurate (the lighting was felt very true for those types of castles (shout out to Eric for pointing this out)) and then historically inaccurate ( LOVEEEDDD THE CLOTHING and I think those choices payed off tbh) visually a banger fucking movie The theme of this movie I also enjoyed a lot, if somone was to argue that it does start to hit you over the head with what it was trying to say towards the end,I honestly could see that. However I don’t see that as being a big enough issue to mind it. I have some smalllll gripes with this movie but I think paying more attention to that middle of the film, I could see myself changing my tune ALSO there’s something very important about seamen in these types of stories so HONESTLY I clapped at the jizz.

What pisses me off is that we are capable of making movies like this but we never do!!! Put your fucking render down you slip coward loser I WANT THE BODY TO SHATTER AND EPIC FIRE EFFECTS TO PLAY RN!! Eveyone in Hollywood should piss themselves because they aren’t even eating these house nachos.

Long time coming!!! I was very excited to watch this movie because I’ve heard so many good things about it and I think for the most part it does live up to the hype AND I think that that there are parts of it that are a little disappointing, BUT I do wanna watch it again. the first half of the movie is perfect, visually. I love how everyone is shown coming together to assemble this night club, and even the shots at the end of everyone working together to make this night happen. I also think that without a doubt I’m definitely watching this on the wrong screen because it’s not doing the colors of this movie any fucking justice and it pisses me the hell off. And I do think this movie would have absolutely hit in theaters so I do wish I could have expirenced it as it was meant to be. Also the post credit scene had me very emotional I can’t lie, a very beautiful and heartwarming display of the vampire condition. My gripe with the movie comes the second half of this movie moves SO fast. Characters die with no time to reflect on them dying and what’s crazy is the beginning DOES flesh them out and does make me wanna mourn their deaths and mourn the night that could have been. I also do ding points off for TERRIBLE cgi, I understand you can’t have people burn like that with practical effects but something about it here just…felt a little cheesy. All being said, I don’t trust a single white bitch with a banjo absolutely not
