NosferatuVaughn9.8· December 28, 2024FollowAnd after the credits rolled, Nosferatu went to the Krusty Krab to flick the lights on and off. Eggers does not fucking miss! My jaw was on the floor for a good majority of the run time. The craft was absolutely remarkable. Sound deign and Score that seeps deep into your bones and its presence not leaving until a fitting cut to black, a masterful director creating a lived in world which pairs the realisms of every day life with the gothic fantasy horrors of superstition. Rattling performances, especially from Depp and Skarsgard who’s presence is felt as if he is waiting behind every corner just to strike again. Casted in shadow slowly pushing you further into the darkness until it fully engulfs you by the end. Paying homage to the German expressionist era harkening back to films such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The Golem, The Hands of Orlac, and of course the original Nosferatu, the silhouette of Nosferatu’s hand stretching across the town. An ever present force both literally and figuratively looming over them. My thoughts are very scattered but I assure you that I can’t wait to succumb to the darkness again and again. Just another example of why Robert Eggers is one of the most interesting filmmakers working today. Carti fans, seek this one out. I’ve learned that a sure fire way to make sure I will like a movie is to get some merch from said movie before even seeing it. It worked for Asteroid City, it worked for Possession, and it worked for this. You thought you could just slip the Possession influence past me didn’t you Robert? You sly dog.
