Obsession
"I wish for a billion dollars."
I went into Obsession with moderately high expectations because of the hype around it, but it completely blew them away. In the first few minutes, I didn’t think I was going to get hooked, but once the main part of the film started, I was completely invested, and from that point on I was fully engaged throughout. This is, without a doubt, an insane and amazing horror film, and probably one of the best horror films I have watched so far. The way it builds is really strong, and the pacing is perfectly balanced between the first and second half. The story and plot progress so well, and the film never loses momentum; it is very well written and tightly constructed. The acting is what stood out the most, and while every element of the film worked together to carry it, the performances were on another level and really elevated everything. The writing and screenplay was sharp and the characters are handled well throughout. The direction is solid and focused, and it really helps build suspense and mystery throughout the film. The atmosphere is very strong, and the film maintains tension and intensity in a really effective way, with the lighting also adding a lot to the tone and overall mood. The sound design, soundtrack, and sound effects were all great and supported the film really well, with every technical element feeling like it contributed to the overall experience. The ending felt satisfying and fitting, and I personally thought it wrapped the film up really well; it is definitely a theater watch. Overall, Obsession took me by surprise, as I expected it to be good, maybe even average considering the hype, but it completely exceeded my expectations; it is engaging, gripping, intense, and very unpredictable, and it stands out as a really strong horror film.
