Hotel Room
a camille-paglia-referencing new-york-city ladies-who-lunch tense comedy directed by the same guy who directed elvira mistress of the dark, sandwiched between two david lynch pieces?? oh wow. i screamed when i saw that sexual personae copy btw - "I HAVE THAT ONE?" - and the rest of the scene was spectacular. i'm surprised to be the most in love with the one not directed by david lynch actually - it's just so very me. "I AS IN EGO MANIAC" had me guffawing, and yet everyone else seems to think that one was the worst one! crazy. the lynch parts (1 and 3) were good, though (especially for lynch) they felt kinda bare. his themes of violence against women, american identity(, etc.) are all present, in such a way that seems a tad on the nose, like a lynch parody almost. the third piece works in this ridiculousness bcuz it embraces surrealism and absurdity, but the first balances absurdity with a neo-noir realism in a way that doesn't work so well. the bareness of the third is perhaps WHY it works so well in comparison to the first, which feels kinda cluttered and messy - the actors strewn about the room, and the story just as all over the place. i suppose the third one went on a little long, but otherwise it was pretty great. to rate each section, i'd say... 1 is a 7/10, 2 is a 10/10, and 3 is a 9/10, which rounds up to a 9... i think. math never was my forte.
