Before Midnight
There couldn't possibly be a better way to end this trilogy.
What started with romanticizing youth and young love ends with something much more real. Loving your partner despite everything life throws at you.
At first, the movie didn't really catch me. The first half almost felt too normal. But the moment the camera started following Jesse and Céline while they talked about their lives and problems, I got completely sucked in. I was so invested in their conversations that I was genuinely surprised when the movie ended.
What I love most about Before Midnight is how it slowly peels back the layers of their relationship. At first, you only get bits and pieces. Then the more they talk, the more you learn about their frustrations, regrets, and all the things they've been carrying around for years. At some point I stopped feeling like I was watching a movie and started feeling like I was sitting in the room with them.
I honestly think this is one of the most realistic portrayals of love I've ever seen. Not because it's romantic, but because it isn't afraid to show the ugly parts. The arguments, the resentment, the misunderstandings, the sacrifices. All the things that happen when you've spent years with someone.
Most movies end when two people get together. Before Midnight is about what happens after that. It shows that loving someone isn't always pretty. Sometimes it's frustrating, exhausting, and messy. But choosing each other despite all of that is what makes it meaningful.
