Nightcrawler
Louis Bloom might be one of the most dedicated and confident characters Ive ever seen in a movie. What I really liked about Nightcrawler is how it pulls you in right away. The first time we see him hes cutting up fences and stealing a watch from a security guard, and it instantly makes you wonder what kind of person would do that.
As the movie goes on, we slowly learn more about Louis and the way he thinks. Hes obsessed with getting what he wants, and he will do pretty much anything to achieve it. The more screen time he gets, the more fascinating and uncomfortable he becomes. He doesnt really see people the way most of us do. To him, everyone is either useful or standing in the way. Whether its stealing from someone, convincing them to hire him, or manipulating them into helping him, everything is about getting ahead.
What I enjoyed most is that the movie never tries to make Louis likable. It just lets you watch him operate and decide for yourself what to think about him. By the end I wasnt rooting for him, but I was completely invested in seeing what he would do next. Definitely one of the most interesting characters I have seen in a while.
