Babylon
The snake fight and the night club are still some of the funniest scenes ever, I knew my affinity for them would hold up even on second watch. This is the first movie Damien Chazelle has shown complete controlled chaos within his directing, and he did not miss a beat. From the comedic gestures to the music, to the acting, all of it is like a reoccurring climax. Everything about this I see is nothing less than one of Damien Chazelle’s most ideal pictures. The mansion party for reference, should be predicated upon first viewing as one of the most enthralling opening sequences ever made—without question. Margot Robbie got absolutely snubbed; she put on the performance of a lifetime, and so did Diego, every time they were on screen together they completely leveled the movie. Brad Pitt cooked too! I’ve never seen him with a more passionate/heartbreaking character. All I can say is- I could’ve never expected Brad Pitt to play such a vulnerable role. I’d also like to touch on the music, one of the biggest robberies the academy has ever unveiled. Listening to the score, nearly every track so good I could cry, it’s like if hedonism was a soundtrack. Here are minor spoilers, but yeah, I’d go absolutely nuts if I saw a vision of every single movie ever made in under 5 minutes. This fucking ending, built into the score and the last ten seconds, will always give me goosebumps every time I view it. Absolute cinema, Damien— please keep making movies, your writing is off the hook glorious. 🙏🙏
