Andhadhun
Sometimes the side chick isn't even a chick, it's a fucking rabbit.
okay, so first of all, i have a special place in my heart for the films that start with the end, be it inception or pulp fiction, memento, fight club, SPR, slumdog, eternal sunshine, you name it. so we see the real andhadhun character i.e. the rabbit in the starting itself which is also like our protag. who just wanted to do his work but get involved in shit.
now after the basic premise and character development, when Akash goes to Simi's house on that day, the camerawork reminds me of that old Hitchcockian technique of distract and surprise, the camera stays on them for like 3-4 minutes and suddenly the scene is filled with tension when Akash notices the body. happens more than once in the film later.
Now Raghavan took a major decision here and instead of keeping the mystery till the last act, instantly showed what actually happened, idk some way to generate sympathy for Simi like she didn't do it on purpose which changes the possible genre of the film.
In the next sequence, after witnessing the cover up, he puts a subtle yet interesting scene where even after seeing all this shady shit, Akash somehow noticed the the Rickshaw people, acts as Chekov's gun later.
Now jumping onto the second half, when Akash is abducted by the doctor and has no way out because he's really blind now, a miracle can only save him and that's where the chekov's gun comes to use, which can also be referred to as Divine Intervention just like a scene in Kaminey, since the tattoo on the hand of the lottery woman was of Lord Shiva only, it was like Shiva himself came to his rescue.
Last one, after all the chaos and kidnapping shit, film moves on to its climax and Raghavan cuts to a time jump in London, fucking brilliant imo, making us believe that Akash is really a successful musician despite being blind until the last shot.
so some really witty filmmaking, which makes it different from your "masala thriller" and your typical noir.
