The Lunchbox
quoting Martin Scorsese here not the exact words but- Cinema is something you watch and you feel something and for some reason it stays with you. Years later, you go back and watch the same thing, and you feel differently and that's it, the film grows with you, your emotions for it, they develop and you now longer feel the same but differently.
The Lunchbox, when I watched last year, it was like a 100 min journey for me and an unfulfilled romance. As I think, over an year, my thoughts about it has changed.
It has one of the best dialogues ever written in Indian Cinema. One that caught my attention was "We forget things if we have no one to tell them", in that scene, we see as soon as Ila read this, she went to her daughter and asked her what was she playing and started telling her the games she used to play in her childhood. Now, she could've forgotten it one day but now this game is secured as a memory with her daughter, and this will go on and will be told to another generation and this thing lives, just like that.
Another one would be the painting scene, where Saajan spots himself in a painting and buys it. The scene speaks for every person in a metropolitan, every middle class Indian who just wants to be noticed, in a city where souls are lost.
A similar one would be of Sheikh's wedding day, when he told he didn't had a ticket when they travelled the first time but purchased a pass the very next day. It shows how much people want to converse with other people and wants to be listened.
The old sitcom scene as well, sometimes something reminds us of a memory, a moment which is not with us anymore.
there are many such scenes in this film, which are full of life, speaks for us.
I haven't seen The Good Road, but till date I believe that this could've won an oscar. And like I've said, it is on par with In The Mood For Love for me. so yeah, that's that. I can talk about it for hours but let's stop here only.
