Cloud Atlas
This site is at least a little bit performative. In spite of that, this is my movie. Despite its problematic aspects, I love it.
It could've definitely done without the actors reappearing as different races. It could however not been shorter as many people seem to want. By now, I do hope you realize that this is biased.
"For what? No matter what you do it will never amount to anything more than a single drop in a limitless ocean.
What is an ocean but a multitude of drops?"
I am not naive or whatever. I am someone who wants to achieve though. People often give up or get dismayed when something isn't easily attainable or immensely rewarding. Some discourage others from even trying. Insignificant or small actions may not make a change but they do build up to it. Muscles are built and attained through effort and determination. The same applies to other goals, like making the world a better place or even a goal like growing your own garden.
Actions don't always have an immediate reward or one at all. I hope this film inspires others to not give up completely on our world or whatever problems they are going through. For me, this film gives you hope and comfort. It may not take only one person or one seed to make a difference but one is a good start.
"My life extends far beyond the limitations of me."
Cloud Atlas shows how different actions of people intertwine and the effects of each decades later. We are able to make others laugh, cry, and be motivated. Our lives continue on through the impact we make on others. Our lives continue through the differences we make and the missions we start.
"And by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future."
I have a bit of a dislike for those who seek benefit from being kind. There isn't a personal gain but instead a collective one. It may feel as if harmful acts have a bigger effect than kind acts and hopeless to try to counteract but it isn't. In fact, the film makes you feel exactly that that. Our future is made through the actions of the present. Why succumb to a future full with hurt due to lack of kindness, it isn't too late to make a difference, it never is.
The film shows people of all different standings and different eras trying to make a change. Perhaps its the tiny part left of my optimism that just loves that. I've laughed numerous times and cried an uncountable amount of tears due to this film.
