Submarine
"I suppose this won't matter when I'm 38, but I'm upset about it"
A lot of things won't matter when I'm 38 or even after a few years pass. I knew that but I didn't really carry it with me. A year ago I felt as if all of my problems were massive and overwhelming. I felt as if my issues had to be long lasting or immense in order to excuse the intensity of my actions or reactions. I couldn't really fully comprehend that my current issues wouldn't matter to me in a few years.
This film taught me that things do pass with time. It taught me that they don't go away completely but that they settle and the same intensity won't be there. I logically already knew this but it just click to me after watching this movie
"I think this will matter when I'm older, when I'm 38."
Yes! Some stuff do matter. The parents. Jordana, and Oliver all want to matter. This film really is a blessing to teenage me. Some things stick with us, we can't help it.
The way the characters express loneliness is very dear to me. I also really like how they none of them are fully ever understood. I could write so much about the characters but I'll leave it for my next rewatch review haha.
This film genuinely rewired me. I'm unsure if it's due to my first watch being when I was fourteen and almost just as strange as Oliver or if it's due to me rewatching this film whenever that hormone-induced feeling of loneliness appears. It could also be that my dramatic ass just clicked with this movie and that is that. Submarine means so much to me and I am not giving it justice at all with my words.
