Greta Gerwig somehow managed to smuggle a PhD thesis on patriarchy inside a toy commercial and still make a hilarious, fun movie! Although as I say this, am I perpetuating the exact conflict of the movie by offering MY own opinions on a movie meant to subvert those same expectations? Am I Ken? Or am I Allan? Or am I the Mattel executives who think they are making the world a better place for little girls when they are in fact creating the same bonds of patriarchy inside Mattel as outside in the world.  Gosh my head hurts, I think I’ll go to the beach.
