Boiling Point
I was really impressed by the cinematography in this, obviously the wide format looked stunning and so cinematic, but the set design must have been unreal to allow for such a wide shot to still feel natural indoors. The one continuous shot here feels so perfected that I think I need to see how he improves it in adolescence - at no point did I feel like it would have benefit from a cut, it just felt like a slowly boiling pot.
The cast was perfect, every last role here is played to perfection - my only criticism being the feeling that such a large cast needed more exploration, I would have been happy with a slimmed cast in order for a more streamlined story, the self harm scene felt forced for an emotional scene without any follow up, and the wine table felt like a checkovs gun waiting to go off but forgotten about. However the ending we got was almost perfect, if anything I would have cut down the extended one sided phone call to just let the final image just sit a bit longer and really hang in the air.
I loved this movie and I'm absolutely going to check out his other work now.
