Oliver!

Honestly insane how well shot, choreographed and paced this is. The movie musical usually suffers by the difficulties in translating something built for the stage to the screen. Oliver! is maybe alone in movie musicals in figuring out how to make the camera work for the medium, instead of in spite of it. Dutch angles, harsh zooms and incredibly panoramas of hundreds of dancers make everything so fun to look at. Just ignore Oliver’s weird singing voice. Consider Yourself At Home alone is maybe the best musical number committed to screen. I’d Do Anything is just icing on the cake. Shut up and drink yer gin!!
