Tangled
Maybe my personal nostalgia carries this rating a tad higher than it should be, but Tangled is a masterpiece in my eyes.
It may have the most rememberable and loved characters in any animated film ever. Flynn Ryder is desired by all who view his presence, because of how charismatic his animated persona is on screen. Rapunzel is quite possibly the most loved disney princess. Mother Gothel is well known for her gaslighting and manipulative ways. And Pascal/Maximus make a hilarious comedy duo without even speaking a word. Their actions are not only funny but wholesome. Plus, the old guy that flirts with mother gothel might be one of the funniest side characters ever, in a Disney film. Further, The music is superb, and the entire "I have a dream" sequence is one of the best scenes from my childhood memory.
Tangled isn't just an entertaining journey full of witty and wholesome moments. Its a gorgeous love story, one that I think we all can appreciate. The last 30 or so minutes of this film is truly peak cinema. Rapunzel and Flynn's sacrifices showed how strong their love for each other was in just the most gut wrenching way possible. Flynn's whisper into Rapunzel ear "you were my new dream" had me gasp in the air with how perfectly beautiful and heartbreaking of a line it was (with context to previous scene). Tangled is just as funny and entertaining as any other of Disney's best films, however its also one of the most deeply profound love stories I've ever watched. It may not show the relatable ups and downs life can bring to a serious relationship. However this portrayal of falling in true love and finding the one right person who is not only your lover, but someone that you can learn from and makes you a better person, is just as valuable.
