Get Out
Will always remain BIGGER** than the MF program.
**
Firstly I just want to shed light & immense appreciation on how Jordan Peele is one of the most influential minds & film makers of our time, & I don’t think anyone has had a better generational run in recent decades as a filmmaker (besides Ryan Coogler) than him.
This movie changed the history of modern cinema & filmography for the better. It created a cesspool of hundreds/thousand’s theories, bigoted controversy, & racial tension chatter— Get out, reintroduces #blackhorror as a genre to the general public & made it a topic of conversation again where our demise as a people wasn’t the punchline at the end of the poorly written white joke.
**It was powerful, impactful.
Get out changed lives.**
It also introduced to us the gift that is Daniel Kaluuya.
Putting him on all of our radars. I hadn't ever seen such a captivating performance that felt so unbelievably natural, human, & familiar. I was connected to Chris from the beginning because he was the “every man” the “fish out of water” in this nightmare, unsettling scenario & reminded me of home. He could’ve very well been my brother, my uncle, my cousin & his relatability grounded me & remained through the entire runtime of me watching the film. He was a gem to watch. A natural talent.
As far as the black cultural significance that get out has as a film, I can go on and on & talk about it, but I would be talking for hours. Just know that scene in the third act of Chris frantically scratching at the chairs to free himself & the dramatic irony being he, (darkskin black man, being held by white captors) picking cotton from that fucking chair, saved his life to get out of that, had to be some of the most powerful & influential writing I’d ever seen at that point.
Do I think “Get Out” is Jordan Peele’s best film? No. I do believe his magnum opus is “Nope” (which may be a controversial opinion) but, Get Out however, is my personal favorite Jordan Peele film.
it changed my life, it changed my viewpoints on black film making, my motivation for wanting to be an aspiring future filmmaker & a black visionary… it truly is a once in a lifetime masterpiece of a film.
I can confidently say it’s a perfect movie & if it isn’t in your top 20 films of all time or even top 10 films of all time, I think you might be fucking brain dead or just anti-black!
But yeah, no still a perfect movie. 5/5⭐️
