There Will Be Blood

This seems like a movie that you really have to watch multiple times to have a cogent opinion about it, but I nonetheless have some thoughts.  First off, holy shit. Everyone is at the top of their games here.  Second, this is such a thematically rich movie (some light spoilers below). Reading through some reviews, a lot of the focus has rightfully been on greed and capitalism. What stuck out to me most, though, while watching was family. By my count Plainview cries twice: when he he leaves HW on the train and when he reads his brother’s diary. There’s a thick layer of evil greed on his surface, but on a rewatch I’ll be paying close attention to whether he actually is a family man at his core, in whatever twisted way he sees that. Third, the milkshake scene was kinda funny and Daniel Day Lewis looked kinda hot. This probably says something bad about me as a person.
