Get Out
That was fucking haunting, this film had me at a knife's edge since the beginning of the party. Obviously hearing so much about this film, I expected/had some knowledge of a twist, but that did not take away from the viewing experience at all.
Unbelievable central performance from Kaluuya. You felt everything from him, his anxiety, panic, rage, and mind-numbing processing of what he had just been through.
What elevates this, in terms of storytelling, is that Lakeith Stanfield's character was freed from this hypnosis for just a moment. He felt his freedom and was restrained once more, he's still stuck with his kidnappers. So, no matter how much of a relief or how satisfying it is to see the Armitage family dead, there are still people stuck in the Coagula.
We don't know how many, but we get a glimpse into how long this process has been developed, and the people it has capture and it is haunting. This film is going to stick with me for a long while, and I have no desire to rewatch it anytime soon.
A superbly written, haunting and tragic film that I cannot wait to learn about on a whole other level.
P.S. - Thank fuck for my man Rod, the flashing lights at the end sunk my heart, because after all that I thought Chris was done for. But thank FUCK it was Rod.
Also, a question about Andre Hayworth going missing. Chris sends the photo to Rod, who goes to the police, surely Hayworth wouldn't be confirmed as 'found' and would still be reported missing, no? I don't know how the whole system works, but surely if he's not reported as being found, then it's significant to the female detective that a missing man has been found. I feel like something just doesn't add up there, but it's so insignificant it doesn't take away from the fact that I fucking loved this film.
