Chungking Express

Triggers all the emotions of a loneliness but unlike the rest of films it is truly a hazy dream of loneliness. Things don’t make sense characters don’t make sense and neither does the world surrounding the story and best part is that it all works perfectly.  The soft lighting but still realistic on the background and foreground while keeping the almost bane of beautiful lighting being fluorescent cool tones conveyed being stuck. These characters are beautifully eccentric in their own special ways which connected us to them in a childlike sense like obsessing over pineapples or rolling planes over a stewardess’ ass or using a hot dog roller to dry up a paper letter. The non conventional very whimsical nature of the story to convey search for consolation through artifacts of a person’s likings or property. I love the usage of picking music beforehand a repetition of its use to show Faye’s longing for the unknown by escaping into California dreaming by the mamas and papas. Overall a very emotionally in tune film you can’t analyze and you can’t intellectualize you just feel the film.
