The General
This was genuinely the best film from the silent era I’ve seen so far especially as a modern audience member accustomed to all the bells and whistles of high def color and sound it was shocking how thrilling this film is and hilarious. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire chase. Not as funny as something else Buster Keaton did being Sherlock Jr but it definitely had its comedic moments for me being all the men in the union army fixing the out of place railway.
I must say it felt more epic and blockbuster like especially the big creek battle reminding me of The Good The Bad and The Ugly possible reference to this movie with the river battle.
I more appreciate how this film follows a concrete story rather than the rest it made it more interesting to follow against fantastic stunts for the sake of it.
It had very interesting shots as well more specifically in the interiors like the hole burns by a cigar which he peers out of I assume by a double exposure.
