Young Frankenstein
The perfect comedy movie. The humor is not as old school as it seems I feel that it is ahead of its time feeling like Key and Peele or Adult Swim animations. Having these extravagant characters saying regular lines opposing the standard at the time having regular characters saying crazy things. Every joke has that perfect build up and punchline every single one. The use of the close-up is very important to me. Using it to break the 4th wall sticking the parody of you know whats going to happen also to land a joke for say the ending. Im not sure if they used the same camera’s as the original Frankenstein but the composition is spectacular theres less information in shadows and what comes out of the background makes for such a textured image and the balance of focus and wandering. You can see why Mel Brooks funded Elephant man so much stylization for say when he shocks the monster full of lightning is reminiscent of Eraserhead. Some cinematography truly beautiful lots of floating views almost kind of that god metaphor in Frankenstein. Just absolutely beautiful. Not to mention the performances from the whole cast never missed a beat even more crazier some of them had to workshop and German Accent, improvised scenes like the dance by Gene wilder, and also a actress who has never done any comedy before coming off an Oscar for Drama playing a perfectly funny character.
Mel brook’s masterpiece. For me this is the gold standard of a comedy movie
