Enchanted
Genuinely one of my favorite movies ever made. It’s so earnest in its commitment to its premise that the audience can’t help but buy into every part of the story. It avoids the classic annoying rom-com pitfalls (forced breakup, misunderstanding or jealous ex to a degree that’s distressing for the audience, protagonists treating each other like shit, etc.) while employing some of the genre’s best tropes. Genius casting, wonderful music, and Disney in its still-making-new-content era are the cherries on top. Sorry to dump all my thoughts into this review, I just love this movie so fucking much.
Fun facts about this movie:- at the beginning, Giselle’s dream man is Robert in the hall scene, not Edward- aspect ratio change from animated world to real world (not a fun fact I just love when aspect ratio is utilized in movies)- Robert’s secretary is played by the voice actress for Ariel in The Little Mermaid- The real-world evil witch is actually Susan Sarandon under tons of prosthetic makeup!- there are SO many allusions (Giselle in Central Park running is The Sound of Music, Pip in the hotel on the hanger is Jesus, the poison apples are Snow White obvs, etc)- Julie Andrews is the narrator- Robert Dempsey was constantly followed/harassed by Grey’s Anatomy fans during shooting
If you’ve read this far, thanks! I love Enchanted lmao
