Hamnet
my heart is broken and words fail me. what a devastating film. i have to sit in silence and let it rest within my heart, because I feel utterly destroyed but deeply seen. the tears can't stop running.
i have faced violent losses that teared my soul apart these last few years, and with them, i was stolen from my passion for writing, something that healed my soul in more ways than one. what was human in me was taken with them. i couldn't write, so I couldn't honor them anymore. in this movie, i saw the cruelty of what I felt, but I also saw the strength of love, a love that doesn't let you die. I saw the memory. The notion, that for as long as I live, they live in every word I utter and in every line I write. For as long as I live, they won't be forgotten. They Iive. And, one day, I'll go home to them. I will find myself whole again, but with the comfort in my heart that they were eternal in that fraction of a second that was my existence.
Jessie Buckley, I am speechless at your performance. What a force of nature you are. That Oscar will be yours.
Chloe Zhao, thank you for this movie. It healed a little part of the ache that grief has brought me, and that's the true beauty of art.
