Heretic
Oh my god.
Half of this movie was Sophie Thatcher mogging, but that made it so much better.
I love movies that really make you think about things that people dedicate their whole lives to, e.g) religion.
The movie had the perfect contradictory for and against religion, Sister Barnes was incredible, Sophie’s acting was next level and really brought out a real, raw, emotional side to Barnes.
I loved that from the start you could tell what type of characters each of them would be, I could tell that Barnes was more trusting of herself and firm in her own opinions as she was carrying her own bike, but compared to Paxton who was using something that someone else built to roll her bike down, showing that she was more of a people pleaser and was more likely to conform to others opinions to not cause trouble.
I also forgot this is where Sophie Thatcher’s version of ‘Knocking of Heavens door’ is from, every time I hear it I genuinely have to take a big sigh, because it’s so incredible good.
I enjoyed Sister Paxton at the end, where she definitely stepped up as the protagonist and created a much needed sense of tension between her and Reed.
I enjoyed that from the start you could instantly tell that something wasn’t right, from the scented candles to the light that was on a timer, everything was perfect.
I know a lot of people don’t like the last third of the movie, but I honestly thought it stayed amazing throughout, it was definitely slow when the prophet was introduced, but when the ‘miracle’ was explained, it really brought the rating back up.
As an Atheist, I do believe religions are very important and interesting, and I have a lot of respect for people that follow a religion, as it takes a lot of dedication to dedicate your life to something.
Overall I would 100% recommend this movie, it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
