Sentimental Value
This movie was genuinely so great, I don’t know how to explain the rollercoaster of emotions this film made me experience.
This is definitely one of my favourite posters of 2025.
I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than when I saw the blue screen out the window when she tried to hang herself, I fully believed she was trying to commit again, until I saw the set.
I think this movie proves the point of how sibling love is such a beautiful thing, siblings experience the same childhood as you, but differently, and that’s something that friends can’t compare with. I started properly crying when she admitted she find her childhood easier because she had her older sister, I never thought I’d relate this hard to this movie.
The casting was amazing, the two daughters were hard to tell apart at the beginning!
All the nominations for best picture at the Oscars this year have great soundtracks, that constantly evolve the scenes.
I think this film shows how important it is to be present in people’s lives, it’s understandable that people will have other things to attend to in life, but especially parents, they should be present in their children’s lives. I like how it also partially contradicts the point just before in a way, it shows how people don’t necessarily need to be present to notice, when they were talking about their father’s scene compared to her suicide. He knew about what was going off with his daughter, even if he hadn’t been present.
I really liked Elle Fanning’s character, I loved how she knew how to speak up when things didn’t seem right, in a way she saved the project by knowing when to speak up.
I enjoyed how this movie was in their native language, it made the film feel more personal and intricate, I felt as if I was getting to know the characters better, just because they were using their native language.
I also love when they casually drop the name of the movie in the film, they didn’t make it a big deal, but it explained more of the plot, it’s called Sentimental Value, as it’s reflecting on the character’s personal feelings towards things their parents owned, for example the film, but that’s just my interpretation of it.
I knew it was a Scandinavian house because they have the really thick light switches.
