This is what our world is gonna look like if we don’t limit our AI usage.
But as depressing as this movie was supposed to be, it felt almost like getting under a warm blanket in winter.
Theodore is a lonely man that writes letters for people that can’t form their feelings into words. He is going through a divorce he can’t get himself to finalise because finalising it would mean that he would be officially a divorced, single and man without any loved ones in his life.
So who is the person that helps him get through this? Not his two friends that are in a very watching paint dry-esque relationship but a modern day Siri!
That robot voice has him wrapped around his finger so badly that he ends up fumbling a date because he admits that he would have much rather been with the voice.
So instead of continuing to put himself out there he decides that the best idea for his life is isolation from everyone that isn’t his AI-girlfriend.
To me, this movie shows what happens when we rely too much on the internet and our online life instead of trying to have irl relationships because it’s easier and safer to just stay online and talk to a computer that will act the way we want it to. The way it was programmed.
By the end of the movie we can see how everyone around Theodore is on the phone, and we then come to find out that he isn’t the only one with the same girlfriend which breaks his heart.
At least it had helped him come to terms with everything and end his divorce on a good note, with a heartfelt letter.
