So this is permanence…
I don’t think people who complain about how there wasn’t development between falling out of love with Debbie and falling in love with Annik realise how he was married so young and someone came into his life (as well as Genesis P Orridge) who saw him as he saw himself, an artist and someone different to those around him. It’s clear Annik was the right person for him, circumstance just didn’t allow that to be smooth - apologies to those who that isn’t as grandiose a story for.
Also condensing anyone’s life to 2 hours, regardless of how young they died is tough to do. They could have added some more regarding his relationship with the band, but this is based on Debbie’s account too. There’s so much that could have been added to better explain Ian as a person though it would be hours long.
This is a great example of how to do a biopic without needlessly glorifying an artist or worse see things shown that never happened. Ian Curtis was a troubled man and this film shows that and the person he was in Debbie’s life.
