Aftersun
All the build up. All the moments of quiet. All the odd cuts. All the little scenes that would normally point toward a horrible thing happening end in litteraly nothing. The odd framing. The lack of music. The heavy breathing. The volume increasing. Its like the movie is juking you.
I mean sure its got great framing and a better colour pallete, some great acting and emotional scenes did help it gain some quality but it just feels like a prime waste of time to me. Maybe it will grow on me but for now its just so over rated. Granted not many movies make my cry and i did watch this for that goal but it felt dry in that area. Its almost a thriller the way the built it all up for litteraly nothing. I mean the climax was litteraly dancing. Maybe i didnt understand it fully…
Allthough i got to see paul mescals bare arse so thats not bad…
Edit: finnaly i think i got it and it just made me go “wow” it just took some time to concider. It occurred to me we arnt watching the journey like in most movies, we are watching the aftermath. We are watching a father going through mental hell trying to protect a daughter he doesnt share full ties with. Its heartbreaking (yet still didnt make me cry so -1 star)
