Possession
Absolutely killer film, watching it for the second time in theatres allowed me to really take in these themes and I understood much more clearly what Possession is saying and offering to the audience. Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neil both give some of the most impassioned, vibrant horror performances, and the screenplay is so safe in their capable hands. Appreciated the writing much more this time. The ballet sequence with Anna that goes into her monologue about faith versus chance is just too good and evocative, and then boom the ever so iconic subway scene which fucking rocks. These three moments give Anna so much motive, and really ask one to sit with this discomfort. I think there is still much to unpack and take in watching Possession, as I left we overheard a girl say “I feel like i’m too dumb to watch this movie!” and honestly I kinda felt like that the first time watching, I did really think it would be about a woman being possessed by something supernatural and not the act of possession as ownership. Anyway! I am really looking forward to watching this one again and probably for years to come.
