Audition

this is a very interesting film. at first glance our male lead seems nice enough, he has a nice son and a cute dog and is never really outright rude to anyone. however his attitude towards women is very one-dimensional, he is very dismissive of and even speaks very condescendingly of the women around him not to mention his treatment of his assistant and fantasies of his housekeeper. asami catches his attention because she plays a meek and shy girl with a tortured past and no one to love- something our lead can’t help but become enamored with. but as he gets to “know” her he remembers that yes he held auditions and this is all, of course, an act. i couldn’t help but find myself rooting for asami especially considering her past and how aoyama would’ve treated her. lowk more shockingly gorey than ichi the killer. i love!
