Sicario
“If your fear is operating out of bounds, I am telling you, you are not. The boundary has been moved”
Quite possibly the most tense film I’ve ever seen. Nearly every moment of this gave me that deep feeling in your stomach of anticipation. You know that feeeling, like when you’re on a roller coaster and it’s about to have a huge dip. That feeling is what you feel for almost the entire films runtime. Fuck imma just go out on a limb here and says it’s Villenueves best film (at least from what I’ve seen so far).
The score, acting, set design, dialogue, is all on point and don’t even get me started on the cinematography, HOLY SHIT.
Not only is this film cool asf (the 8 year old in me still sees soldiers and is just like “hell yeah”) , but it has so much to say about corruption, PTSD, moral ambiguity, corruption, and shady government practices.
The final scene for me is the most haunting in a movie filled with the killing of children, dead and mutilated bodies, and the dark world of narcotics. It’s so impactful to me because I think it illustrates our current world right now. We’ve become so desensitized to violence that it doesn’t really affect us anymore. We perpetuate it, fall victim to it, try to prevent it with more of it, and then we are back to square one. It’s just an endless cycle that those final moments capture so accurately.
PS: Denis Villenueve is a fucking God btw as is Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt
