Dune: Part Two
Lead.
Part Two will likely go down as one of the greatest movies ever put to the screen, let alone the greatest sequel. It perfectly builds on the foundations left by Part One, and it transforms the story into a fight for survival in a world filled with corruption and anger.
Part Two’s motto is certainly bigger and better. The cinematography, the set design, the music and special effects seem twice the perfection that they already were in Part One. But not only is the visual aspect increased. The plot expands into a full blown phenomenon. The Fremen are perfectly examined as the freedom fighters, surviving and adapting to the desert, as well as defending themselves. The villains, I feel, are so powerfully structured to the point that they could enter legend. The scene of the na-Baron’s birthday fight is actually magnificent. From the set design, to the music, to the fight choreography, we really get to feel as if we are experiencing the raw brutality of the Harkonnens.
Paul Atriedes is transformed from a potential prophet for the Fremen, to not only their leader, but everyone’s. The cocky boy just wanting to read and study is now the incredibly powerful Lisan Al Gaib, the leader who will lead the imperium into - as he states it - paradise. The character would be nothing without Timothée Chalamet, who provides the rugged need to ascend to the top. Additionally, in terms of acting, Rebecca Ferguson continues to break her typecast, as he did previously, as she portrays Jessica as someone who possesses much power, but is being driven insane by it. A really excellent change from her previous performances. She is just one part of a formidable cast, who each have their own fame and glory, yet all feel suitable in each role.
A visual spectacle, a cinematic phenomenon, and a perfect continuation of one of the greatest stories ever told, both on paper and screen. Call it what you will, but it’s commonly known as Dune: Part Two. Part Three can’t come soon enough.
