Django Unchained
“I like the way you die, boy.”
Hands down one of the most badass movies I’ve ever seen.
At first, I was worried about the runtime. 2 hours and 45 minutes felt like a lot. But it seriously didn’t drag at all. Tarantino tells a revenge story with the clarity of a fairy tale. Every act feels like a chapter of a novel, and Django grows stronger with each one until he becomes mythic.
What staggered me the most was Leo’s performance. Especially that scene where he cuts his hand and stays in character. He uses the accident to fuel Candie’s fury, turns a real moment of pain into pure rage. I must’ve rewatched it at least five times. It’s unreal.
Everything about this movie is amazing. The dialogues, the characters, the pacing, those moments of silence before explosions of violence. Tarantino builds tension like no one else, and when it breaks, it’s devastating.
What it comes down to is a revenge story that earns every second of its runtime.
