A Clockwork Orange
“I was cured all right.”
This has cemented Kubrick as my GOAT. The vibe he creates is so surreal, and the colors to match make for a dreamlike experience. The music is awesome who doesn’t love some of the old Ludwig Van? and it serves as a kind of juxtaposition to the events unfolding. The protagonist also being the antagonist leaves you conflicted, as you don’t know whether to feel bad for him or hate him. Malcolm McDowell adds comedic elements as the “humble” narrator, providing much-needed breaks from the film’s disturbing content. Kubrick tackles ideas of the media listening to public outcry too much and the notion that violence only leads to more violence themes that remain very prevalent 54 years later. I don’t know if I want to watch this again anytime soon, but it’s an absolutely perfect film.
