this movie is everything to me. they just nail every single human relationship so incredibly hard that a story about teen pregnancy somehow becomes universally relatable. sea of love by cat power never fails to make me sob, but this time i shed a tear during tire swing by kimya dawson too. there’s so so much love and heartbreak as well as motherhood and friendship and angst packed into a film that disguises itself to be a silly quirky comedy for a solid 30 minutes at first with its oh-so-quotable dialogue about orange juice and etch-a-sketches. it was a perfect movie to watch on my birthday because it is such a celebration of life and all things in it.
