What a weird film…
A few years ago, I was at my father’s house. We always watched movies there—that was our thing. Most of them were good. There were a few bad ones, but they were very few and far between. At the time, my dad and I were on a hot streak—nothing but absolutely amazing films. Unfortunately, there’s always something that comes along and ruins it… although this did not. The film that did was Master of Disguise.
Anyway, he picked up the DVD and chuckled. He asked if I knew who Jerry Springer was, and I said yes. We had a short conversation about the show, and then he asked if I wanted to watch the movie. I said yes to that too. He then put the movie into the DVD player, and we watched it… we watched Ringmaster.
I knew it was bad then, but I still enjoyed it. How do I feel about it now? About the same. It’s classic white-trash hilarity. Don’t go into this film expecting anything close to a good movie—hell, you might not even enjoy it—but I do. The characters are absolute trash. Most of them aren’t even likeable, but they’re fun to watch, and that’s all that matters.
The one character who comes close to being a good person is the main man, Jerry. Jerry Springer is basically just playing himself, but it’s fine—I don’t care. The movie’s already bad. I honestly wish he had acted in more films, because he was genuinely a pleasure to watch in this. He’s easily the best part of the movie.
So yes, this movie is garbage—but as the saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
