Recently, I’ve been going through a nostalgic phase, and the chokehold the early 2000s aesthetic has on me is only getting stronger.
*So Close* is the epitome of action films of that era. The frantic, fragmented editing, the gravity-defying fight scenes, the absolute tech galore – everything constructs the perfect time capsule. The plot itself is effortlessly feminist. However, in my opinion, it would be even better if it were gayer. Unoriginal take, I know, but it’s a raw fact.
The whole trio of actresses did a good job, but Shu Qi will always be my fave.
