Foundational blueprint for mecha anime. Would make a good substitute to watching an entire series/season of something like Mobile Suit or Macross. This nicely supplements that experience. Naturally, that means it would be truncated, but the effects and story beats, formulaically-speaking would be met. It introduces four primary characters, all with different backgrounds, but all combining to make the primary mech, Dangaioh. Villains abound with recurring vengeances and space politics. Animation is pretty great, of the old school variety. Story is pretty stupid and none of the characters are memorable, but the mech animation and action more than makes up for anything substantively missing. Overall a definite positive experience, not transcendent but consistently satisfying.
