Really well-made series about a horrific fire that occurred in a Brazil nightclub about a decade ago. Five episodes mini-series, which i do find an interesting decision as with some restructuring, this could’ve worked as a film. Regardless, this series best feat is how well it interconnects all these families lives. It’s a lot to ask of a writer/director, but this does so with a lot of care. Although I feel this series achieves its overall message, it’s ending is cut in a disappointing way as it only leads itself up to best climactic event we have so far. The story about the lives of 242 people taken away is so tragic and what the series does extraordinarily way is making you empathize as many moments really strike me in my emotional centre. What makes everything more frustrating is having to see how corrupt this judicial system is. We have to follow these parents who are being told they have to wait as the law does it’s work, but a decade that can’t find four people liable and all the people in the government who had involvement in this are cleared of any criminal involvement is despicable. Laws are there for a reason. But, this series does prove laws are there for a reason, but not for Justice….but for those in power to use to their benefit. Well worth the watch, I recommend especially if you hadn’t heard about this tragic event such as myself. I do think this needs more international attention. If you scroll for a good bit on reviews, it’s all in Portuguese and the first English reaction is someone who was born in Brazil. Not just based on the quality of the show, but the fact that I didn’t hear about this (most likely because I was young at the time) is crazy.
