*“This is the most refreshing depression I’ve ever felt.”*
*Densha Otoko* (or rather *Train Man*) is a rather modern love story, a love story originating from the internet. Its premise - an introverted man finds romance after he saves a woman from a drunkard on the train with the help of a forum board - sounds plausible, even if the actual man in question’s identity remains unknown. But I am of the opinion that it is better to believe such a thing could really happen - and who wouldn’t want to? We all want to believe love can be found anywhere.
I’ve read the story a dozen times. It feels fresh every time, and I figured I was due to see the movie. The manga is cuter, alas, but the film is enjoyable even with its confusing ending.
Personally, I find the parts where he interacts with the forum board to be incredibly interesting in the way they’re cut and edited. What a way to present the digital world in this cute twist on the romcom.
