"That water will make you calm. It will make you happy, empty... You'll be born again, just like me" oh my fucking god, this is single handedly the most mind bending horror/thriller EVER. holy shit i love this movie so fucking much, this is genuinely one of my favourite movies ever. kiyoshi kurosawa is a genius, he knows how to make a thrilling psychological horror and this is him at his BEST. i thought pulse was great, but after rewatching this it's on a whole other level, this is a fucking masterpiece. this isn't scary like ur average horror movie, this is scary due to the psychological impact and just how crazy this movie is. some of those dead bodies were pretty gory considering the age rating. the themes of evil and repression are just out of this world. the dynamic between the 2 leads and their chemistry on screen and the way they just exchange dialogue is something else. mamiya is probably one of my favourite villains in anything ever, he's so terrifying and he's just so perfect in so many ways. i love the entire hypnosis shit and how it effects every single person involved in the case psychologically, and how this effects the main character and how it makes his emotions unravel is out of this world. the atmosphere in this movie is unmatched, genuinely it's so calming yet so chilling and it just fucks with ur brain which i LOVE. the cinematography is amazing, the scenes are mostly long takes and the fact that the acting is just fucking fantastic in general along with those long takes ughhh i love it so much. so much beautiful shots aswell, like the one with the big X in the hospital for the one with takabe on the roof. just a stunning movie and it's amazing. the pacing of this is electric imo, this passed by so quickly and i didn't even notice. the ending of this movie is such a good representation of evil and how the human psyche can be easily effected. one of the best movies ever and i recommend this to EVERYONE. amazing movie
