The Lighthouseaeorut9.9· November 14, 2021Follow5 fart jokes and a fortnite reference? MASTERPIECE nah, but, for real, the Lighthouse is one the weirdest experiences I've ever had. Sleep deprived, at 1 AM and in a room with the lights off is definitely the best way I could've watched this. The beginning parts of this movie are funny, the chemistry between Dafoe and Pattinson is amazing, and as the movie goes on, it gets crazier and crazier just like the protagonists and just like the person watching it. For most of the movie I wasn't afraid, I was confused, I felt like I was going insane just like old and young Thomas. The distortion of time this movie has is unmatched, days pass, you notice it, yet still can't quite tell how much time has passed. The movie also never gives you answers, it leaves you up in the air, are the evils real and is that what is toying with this people's minds? Is it all a twisted figment of the imagination of an insane Thomas Howard that still works with timber like the movie once suggests? Or (my preferred theory), is it just the story of two men, going insane? Also the editing, it is insane, how they distort and overlap audio, how they change from "Good buddies dancing!" to "Embracing each other while one sings" to fighting to them embracing each other again just kept me on the edge of my seat the while way through. Most of the supernatural imagery is really well done, gross and scary, yet, the things that caused the most fear in me were the interactions, the two men going crazy in a little rock in the middle of no where, that is real, that CAN absolutely happen, so seeing it take place in such a mind-twisting but still realistic way is really unsettling, like, for example: The ending.I don't think anything in any other movie has made me more uncomfortable than the scene where Robert's character finally reaches the light, and just watches it, then touches it and starts screaming. It sounds painful and like an orgasm at the same time, the light in Pattinson's face, his acting, and specially the editing and distortion they do to the audio makes for an incredible scene. All in all, The Lighthouse is a masterwork in horror, dark comedy and misleading yet engaging storytelling all in one package.CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the appSee all aeorut's reviews for The Lighthouse (2)First watch9.9November 14, 2021Rewatch 19.9July 23, 2023
