Dune: Part Two
So I’ll just go back and forth as to which part is superior based on which I watch last won’t I
I paid more attention to a couple of the main technical complaints I see from people online, the lackluster editing and the overuse of shallow focus. I’ll concede it’s not the best edited movie. A few of the shots could’ve been held longer, I think it would’ve benefited from being around 15 mins longer, but it’s not a large detriment. Unless you’re really paying attention to it you’re so enamored with the story and visuals it’s pretty seamless. I don’t agree with the shallow focus criticism at all though. Sure Denis could’ve been a bit more creative and used more variety in his face cards, but so much of the movie’s emotional punch is riding on the back of characters reactions without dialogue. From Chani, to Paul, Jessica, Feyd, Stilgar, all of these characters throughout the whole movie display emotion beautifully with the camera pointed solely with them in the focus, and I think that way of filming works extremely well here.
Such a tragic story. It hit even harder emotionally the 2nd time. The series overall is the blueprint for modern sci fi, nothing more I can say on the positive side that others haven’t, I have no doubt Denis will bring it home with Messiah.
